The High Court on Monday ordered the BDA not to buckle under pressure from Congress MP, D K Suresh, and drop a road-widening project.

Justice Anand Byrareddy stated in the order that intervention by Suresh to drop the BDA’s project was not appreciable. G Yerriswamy, a resident of Electronics City, had moved the court, questioning the BDA’s decision to drop a project to widen a two-km road between Begur Koppa and Doddathogur. Land was acquired from people. But the BDA dropped the project following a meeting with land losers on November 5, 2014. During the meeting, the MP called  up the BDA commissioner to drop the project.

HC relief for airport
The High Court on Monday stayed the demand notices issued by the Anneswara Gram Panchayat and the Bengaluru Rural Zilla Panchayat that wanted the Bangalore International Airport Ltd to pay Rs 20.58 crore as property tax.

Justice S Abdul Nazeer gave the order on a petition by the BIAL. The gram panchayat had issued a notice to it on October 10, 2013, demanding property tax of Rs 20.58 crore since 2010. The BIAL paid Rs 2.43 crore, contending that tax was miscalculated. It appealed to the zilla panchayat which issued another demand notice on June 18, 2015, asking it to pay half of the sum for its application to be considered. The BIAL then moved the court.
