Last Updated 13 January 2016, 03:48 IST

An autorickshaw driver has been arrested for molesting a Nigerian woman in west Delhi’s Tilak Nagar last week. The 22-year-old woman had also alleged that she was pushed out of the auto, police said on Tuesday.

The accused has been identified as 45-year-old Aagya Pal Singh, a resident of Tilak Vihar.

“In her complaint, the woman had stated that two men were sitting on the driver’s seat. On being questioned, Aagya identified the other accused as his brother Baljeet,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Pushpendra Kumar.

On January 8, a police control room call was received at Tilak Nagar police station reporting that a Nigerian woman was thrown out by an auto driver at Tilak Nagar Block-20.

She sustained a head injury and bruises. Another PCR call was also made from Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital.

The woman told police that she had boarded the auto near Krishna Park to get to her friend’s house in Shahpura at 1.30 am.

“The woman said that the auto driver along with another man touched her inappropriately and they pushed her out of the vehicle when she raised an alarm,” Kumar added.

The woman failed to provide the registration number of the auto, but gave partial description of the accused. It revealed that they were wearing turbans.
Police then contacted auto drivers plying on the route and auto owners who park their vehicle at the stand where the incident took place.

“A probe revealed that Aagya and Baljeet were there. Aagya was tracked and arrested,” Kumar said.

Aagya confessed, but claimed that Baljeet pushed the victim from the moving auto, police said. Baljeet is absconding.

A case under sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 341 (wrongful restraint) and 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) of the Indian Penal Code has been registered with Tilak Nagar police station.
