Last Updated 22 March 2016, 18:07 IST

The best teacher available to you is yourself, said Maulishree, chief executive officer, ICT Skills Development Society, Department of IT, BT and S&T, here, recently.

She was delivering the inaugural address during a national conference on ‘Skill Development for Rural Graduates,’ organised by RiiiT, in association with the department of Higher Education and National Skill Development Corporation. She called upon the students to be determined in whatever they want to become, so no one can stop them.

Sudhanva D, managing director and CEO of ExcelSoft Technologies, in his keynote address, said, “Writing great English without clarity of the content doesn’t work. Both, the industry and academia, have challenges. While the industry says, we don’t get straight employable graduates, academia is finding it difficult to deliver complete skill set required for the industry. So, the finishing schools are filling the gap between the industry and academia.” “In this digital era, we need to use technology and create powerful network,” he added.

Over 200 final year engineering students from 30 colleges participated in the event. There was a panel discussion on ‘80% of Present Engineering Graduates are unemployable – Can 2016 be a turnaround?’ with Sriram, former state chairman of Builders Association of India, Bhaskar Kalale, vice president, India Operations, Theorem and Girish Karunakaran, president of Eurasia, Software Paradigm Infotech. A new portal ‘Visume 360: A solution ahead’, connecting industry, institute and students was also launched.
