Tree park Sasyodyana at Tannirbavi beach to open tomorrow

B Ramanath Rai, Minister for Forest, Ecology and Environment, will inaugurate Sasyodyana, the tree park, at Tannirbavi on March 26.

Addressing mediapersons in Mangaluru on Wednesday, Deputy Conservator of Forests Dr K T Hanumantappa said that Sasyodyana, the tree park, will be inaugurated at 11.30 am. Health and Family Welfare Minister U T Khader, Youth Empowerment, Sports and Fisheries Minister K Abayachandra Jain and other elected representatives will take part.

“A herbal garden, comprising of 10 types of herbs and a mangrove with more than 50 species of plants found in the Western Ghats – including Calophyllum innophyllum (Bayalu Honne) – are planted in 15 hectare land in the tree park,” he said.

An Interpretation Centre is set up for providing information for general public. Information panels have been displayed to provide details on the ecological system, the biodiversity in the Western Ghats and related matters. Tableaux featuring folk arts of the district and life of tribals have also been kept at the park.

“A chain link mesh has been erected around the park for protection. Facilities of beach volleyball court, food canteen, benches, walkers path, view points and children’s play area are made. Also, water sports will be organised with the held of Jungle Lodges, to develop the spot as a special tourist destination,” he said.

Hanumantappa added that a management committee will come into being and the entrance fee will be decided in the first week of April. Zonal Forest Officer P Sridhar and Assistant Conservator of Forests A Sridhar Nayak were present.
