Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Friday promised to take measures to clear encroachments in and around Sankey Tank in the City. He announced the setting up of an inquiry committee headed by the chief secretary to look into the allegations.
Siddaramaiah, who received a representation by leader of the opposition in the Legislative Assembly Jagadish Shettar on the protection of the lake, also assured Shettar of action against BDA and BBMP authorities for their alleged involvement in forging documents and transferring land use to a private developer. A meeting will be convened shortly in this regard.
The 10-page memorandum, which also seeks several other measures by the government, has been signed by BJP MLAs B N Vijaykumar, Ravi Subramanya, Ashwathnarayana, R Ashoka, S Suresh Kumar and B Suresh Gowda among others.
Shettar said the protection of Sankey Tank was imperative and told reporters that after he had broached the subject in the legislature, Siddaramaiah had promised to look into th matter. “Mantri developers is building a mall and residential flats in this encroached area.
This will have a catastrophic impact on the environment. We have submitted all the related documents to him. The chief minister has promised to take stock of the situation and call for a meeting of officials concerned,” Shettar said.
