Bollywood's best from the worst

Last Updated 04 April 2016, 16:53 IST
There are awards that celebrate the best of Bollywood, and then there is the Golden Kela Award which acknowledges the worst of it.

Each year, it awards various Bollywood movies in categories which are based on how painful the film has been. The worst of the lot gets a golden banana, based on votes casted online by the public.

Continuing the tradition for the last eight years now, winners of the golden banana this year were recently announced at an award ceremony held on Saturday at India Habitat
Centre (IHC).

And not very surprisingly, Salman Khan-starrer Prem Ratan Dhan Paayo (PRDP) stole the limelight by winning four awards in different categories.

On one side where Sonam Kapoor got the Big Star Entertainment (BSE) Award in the Most Entertaining Actor (female) category for PRDP, Golden Kela Award gave her the title of Worst Actor (female) for the same role — a wake-up call that acting needs a lot more than just looking good.

The movie’s title song which won the BSE for Most Entertaining Song and Zee Cine Award for Best Song of the Year bagged the golden banana for being the Most Annoying Song. PRDP’s director Sooraj Barjatya won two awards  – Worst Director and Bas Kijiye Bahut Ho Gaya special award.

Shahrukh Khan and Kajol starrer Dilwale was crowned with the title of Worst Film in 2015 and the song Gerua from the movie won the ‘special’ Sangh Parivaar Award.
Zakir Khan, noted comedian and host for the show, took a dig at all the nominees while announcing their names. Joking on Sooraj Pancholi, who won the Worst Actor (male) award for his acting in the movie Hero, he said, “Sooraj got this movie as a birthday gift from bhai, our Salman bhai.

On one birthday, when Salman forgot to get a gift for Sooraj, he promised Sooraj that he will launch him in Bollywood. And this is how Hero happened.”

Another laughter riot was sourced when he took a dig on the movie MSG 2 which won the golden kela for the Most Pointless Remake/Sequel. “MSG can do anything and everything. He can sing, act, write, produce, direct; what not? And two movies in a single year, it’s unbelievable. Nobody can do this, except him.”

Sonakshi Sinha who has been consistent in winning the title of Worst Actor for two consecutive years broke the tradition by winning What The Hell award for her musical venture Ishqholic. Zakir jokingly said, “Whatever be the song but kudos to
Sonakshi who danced like this with that weight”.

Ironically, Bajirao Mastani which won the Filmfare Award for the Best Film was also not spared.  Voters voted for the movie to win it Manoj Kumar Award for
Historical Accuracy.
