TVS Motor Company, the flagship brand of TVS Group, is the third largest two-wheeler manufacturer in India. The company has four manufacturing plants, three located in India (Hosur in Tamil Nadu, Mysuru in Karnataka and Nalagarh in Himachal Pradesh), and one in Indonesia at Karawang.
The TVS Motor Company recently relaunched its flagship motorcycle ‘Victor’, which is positioned in the executive segment. In an interaction with Deccan Herald, TVS Motor Company Head of Motorcycles (Marketing) Arun Siddharth said, the new version of TVS Victor is poised to be a game changer in the segment. Someexcerpts:
When was the first TVS Victor launched? Approximately, how many units have been sold (including exports)?
TVS Victor was first launched in 2002 which had a glorious run. Among the top-selling commuter segment bikes in the country, TVS Victor was the first product indigenously developed by TVS Motor in the country.The motorcycle was well-received and took the market by storm clocking over 40,000 units each month.
What are your expectations from the new Victor?
The company now has the widest product portfolio.The new TVS Victor continues to be the best product providing exciting technology without breaking compromise between best-in-class power and mileage. The new Victor is equipped with an all-new advanced 3-Valve Ecothrust engine; with best-in-class rideability; comfort features like most spacious seat, series spring suspension and safety features like most-powerful headlamp and disc brakes, which makes it the ultimate family bike. With the launch of the new TVS Victor, we expect to further consolidate our market share in this segment.
We are targeting 15,000 units a month initially, and once we reach this number, we will look at higher numbers. We have no doubt that this motorcycle will be well-accepted by our customers and will further spur the sales momentum that we have accrued over the last year.
How many countries will you export the new TVS Victor to?
We export most of our products to the international market. So this product too will be sold in export markets in the months to come. We currently export to over 60 countries across Southeast Asia, Latin America and Africa.
How was the March month for overall sales?
TVS Motor Company reported a 10.19% increase in total sales at 2,32,527 units in March. The company had sold 2,11,005 units in the same month last year. Total two-wheeler sales during the month grew 13.25% to 2,26,653 units as against 2,00,121 in the same month, a year ago.
Motorcycle sales rose 12.94% to 86,776 units in March, compared with 76,832 units in the same month a year ago.
Scooter sales surged 24.66% to 68,171 units as against 54,683 in the same period, a year ago. Three-wheeler sales was 5,874 units in March 2016, down 46.03%, compared with 10,884 in the year-ago month. Exports during the month declined by 26.88% to 31,121 units, from 42,565 units in March last year.
