Two men, including a history-sheeter, were murdered by rival gangs in separate incidents in the city.

Shivaprasad, 26, was hacked to death by 6 men just about an hour after his release from the Parappana Agrahara jail on Thursday morning, near Basavanapura junction close to NICE Road, the police said.

The victim, a resident of Rupena Agrahara, had savagely attacked Raja alias Dung Raja during the New Year celebrations and the Madiwala police had arrested him on charges of attempt to murder and he was sent to jail.

On Thursday, at around 10.30 am, Shivaprasad was released on bail. He and his friend Nagaraj were on their way to his sister’s house in Gottigere on a bike, when seven men who followed them on two-wheelers attacked Shivaprasad with lethal weapons near Basavanapura and sped off, said the police.

Nagaraj managed to escape and alerted the police control room. The Electronic City police, who visited the spot, shifted Shivaprasad to a nearby hospital where he was declared ‘brought dead’.

Raja and his associates could be behind the murder, the police said, adding that a few people had been detained for interrogation.

In another incident, a 28-year-old history-sheeter was brutally done to death near Vijayanagar 5th Main Road on Wednesday night.

The police said Harsha, a history-sheeter with the Magadi Road police station, was a resident of Cholarapalya. On Wednesday, after having his dinner, he went to Vijayanagar 5th main road on his bike to smoke cigarette. A gang of men came on four bikes and assaulted him with machetes at around 11.30 pm and fled. Harsha was found lying dead in a pool of blood. Passersby alerted the Vijayanagar police who shifted the body for postmortem.

A senior police officer said Harsha had taken to crime at 17. He was involved in murder, attempt to murder and armed robbery and several criminal cases were registered against him. A history sheet was opened against him and he was warned to restrain himself from indulging in illegal activities. Of late, he had reformed and had even opened a small clothes store, added the officer.

“The CCTV footages is being examined and a few locals are being questioned. We have obtained a few vital clues. Rivalry could be the motive behind the murder,” added the officer.
