Kanhaiya's men thrash youths

Supporters of Kanhaiya Kumar, the president of the JNU Students’ Union (JNUSU), on Sunday thrashed 2 youths who showed black flags to the student leader.

Kanhaiya was addressing a gathering at the SK Memorial Hall here in the state capital.

Though Kanhaiya pleaded with his “comrades” not to beat the demonstrators as “it was their democratic right to protest,” but those who showed black flags and chanted “Bharat Mata ki jai” were mercilessly beaten up for disturbing Kanhaiya’s programme.

The 2 youths, who police say are RSS sympathisers, actually belong to a little-known organisation Yuva Swaraj, and have been identified as Nitish and Manikant of Sitamarhi and Samastipur districts respectively. “The duo has been detained by the police,” said SSP of Patna, Manu Maharaj.

Undettered by such protests, Kanhaiya continued with his speech where he said he was not scared of hurling of a shoe or a stone on him. He was speaking at a programme organised by All India Students Federation and All India Youth Federation.
