The AIPMT, which became the NEET Phase I, was held on Sunday amid high security measures where jammers were installed at sensitive centres across the country to prevent cheating.

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) installed jammers for the first time to prevent students from using Bluetooth-enabled devices for malpractices.

Rajasthan’s Kota, which harbours a thriving coaching centre business, is one of the places where the low-potency jammers were used at almost all the examination centres to block data services.

Jammers were also installed at all the examination centres in Gurgaon, which was recently renamed Gurugram, in Haryana. The CBSE installed jammers at many of the test centres as cheating in examination has gone hi-tech over the last few years. Such devices discretely fitted with regular items like, pen, eyeglasses, shirts and vests are available in grey market at a very cheap rate.

The CBSE had to re-conduct the All India Pre Medical and Dental Test (AIPMT) last year after the apex court ordered for it, hearing petitions filed by a group of parents and students for cancelling of AIPMT 2015.

Besides installation of jammers, metal detectors were also used to frisk candidates at “all the examination centres” across the country this time, sources told DH. The board also purchased about 1 lakh wall clocks for hanging inside the exam halls as candidates were not allowed to wear watches after students were caught using spy watches to cheat in the exam.
