Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Saturday denied any possibility of joining hands with the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF)  to form a third front.

Earlier this week, AIUDF chief and perfume baron Maulana Badruddin Ajmal had hinted at a possible third front formation in the state where even Congress can be a partner. Counting of the Assam Assembly polls will take place on May 19.

“Forming a third front is possible only in Badruddin Ajmal’s dreams. Congress will not join hands with Ajmal. We are not having such bad days to form a third front to come to power.” the Chief Minister said while addressing the press in Guwahati.

Three days ago, Ajmal had stated that his party is trying to cobble up a third front with the help of Asom Gana Parishad and Bodoland People’s party – the alliance partners of BJP.

Ajmal had also claimed that the May 19 Assam poll result will throw up a hung assembly and his party would be the kingmaker.

“It is funny that AIUDF thinks Congress needs the help of Badruddin to form the government. He can rope in BJP to do that. We know he maintains a very good relationship with the BJP,” Gogoi added.

The Chief Minister also came down heavily on the BJP-led NDA government for not releasing Rs 1,290 crore to the state as part of flood relief.
