Golden Star Ganesh, the romantic hero of Mungaru Male, gets a macho image makeover in Style King.

Here, he dons shades of grey, consciously shedding his sweet-talking cupid frame. He is a vengeful badman who singlehandedly takes on baddies with style and swagger. In the process, Ganesh’s fans get to swoon and cheer over two Ganeshas for the price of one ticket. Now, that’s a double dhamaka. Except for this new dimension, P C Shekar’s plot has no newness to it.

The film runs on two tracks right through the first half. As Karthik, he romances Ramya, and aspires to be a sub-inspector. However, with drunkard father Naga heavy into debts, he is busy trying to find money to stave off creditors baying for his dad’s blood. He also has to assuage his prospective father-in-law Sundar, whose elder daughter Pushpa’s jewels — given for safekeeping — have been taken away by creditors.

As King aka Kashi, he is busy fighting a drug mafia run by Deena, his arch rival Perumal and their cronies, whose drug cache he has cleverly spirited away.

Post-interval, both Ganeshas share screen space with the drug loot going from Kashi to Karthik and vice-versa.

Filled with double entendres and an equally obnoxious Sadhu Kokila as corrupt civic body inspector Sadhu, the film is strictly for Ganesh’s fans. Remya Nambeesan is just a pretty prop.

The film’s only plus is its colourful choreography with rich, rainbow designer dresses. The same, though, cannot be said of its half a dozen songs.
