M S Dhoni will lead a new-look limited overs side in Zimbabwe, while Virat Kohli will be in charge of the largely unchanged Test team that will travel to the West Indies.

This decision was taken by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Monday. The selection panel picked Karnataka’s KL Rahul and Karun Nair, Vidharbha’s left-handed opener Faiz Fazal, off-spinner Jayant Yadav, Punjab middle-order batsman Mandeep Singh and IPL star Yuzvendra Chahal for the Zimbabwe tour.

Senior players Kohli, Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma, Murali Vijay and R Ashwin were rested. India’s tour of Zimbabwe from June 11 includes three ODIs and three T20s.

In the Test squad, Mumbai’s paceman Shardul Thakur was rewarded for his consistency in the domestic circuit with a national team call-up, while Varun Aaron, who was part of the team during the series against South Africa, was dropped for a fit-again Mohammed Shami.

All-rounder Stuart Binny along with state-mate Rahul retained their places in the team that will see Ajinkya Rahane as the new vice-captain.

The team for the West Indies has five specialist pace bowlers — Ishant Sharma, Bhuneshwar Kumar, Shami, Thakur and Umesh Yadav — while Binny is also capable of chipping in with his medium pace.
