Letters of grievances are pouring in and we are doing our best to accommodate as many as possible. Readers may write in to highlight civic problems affecting their locality and we will help address them in an interactive and effective manner.

Grievances and issues related to public utility agencies such as Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB), Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) and Bangalore Electricity Supply Company Limited (Bescom) would be highlighted in the weekly column.

The writeups, which could be accompanied by photographs highlighting the problems, will be published on Mondays.

Trees obstruct pedestrian movement
To provide greenery and shade all around, planting of trees in front of houses without obstruction is laudable and also supported by the government.

However, on Hebbal Kempapura Main road, next to Domino’s Pizza, trees have been planted on the footpath, which are not only fenced by iron grills but also kept under lock and key. Customers visiting various commercial establishments invariably park their vehicles, particularly in the evenings, in front of the footpath on this narrow road, creating utter chaos for free flowing traffic.

Moreover, this is a link road connecting colleges, schools, apartments and various layouts. As a result, pedestrians are forced to walk on the road.

The authorities concerned should take immediate steps to remove this obstruction on the footpath to facilitate easy movement of pedestrians and vehicles at this spot.

A serene locality getting spoiled
Basavanagudi is  one of the most beautiful and serene localities of Bengaluru. Unfortunately, of late, fruit vendors have occupied the entire stretch of B P Wadia Road and the corner of B S Madhava Rao Circle. Their customers throng the stretch and spoil the serenity of the entire area.

Already flower, fruit and vegetable vendors and the customers of Roti Ghar have choked the entire footpath on the either sides from Gandhi Bazaar Circle to Tagore Circle, whereby pedestrians are exposed to unruly traffic on the main road. These vendors have now extended their market towards the B P Wadia Road as well. No civic agency seems to have taken note of this. This is a very bad development and must be stopped.

Wrong signboards
Earlier, there were only eight signboards at Ramachandrapura (near BEL Circle) displaying the street numbers. Recently, authorities have installed new direction boards. While writing the numbers on the board, they have written numbers in the reverse order.

For instance, the sign board displaying 8th Cross now reads 1st Cross, 7th Cross reads 2nd Cross
and so on.

Due to this error, letters are not being delivered properly by the postal staff and courier companies. It would be good for the residents of the area if the authorities concerned look into this serious problem and instruct the people concerned to rewrite the numbers as displayed
earlier.

Residents of Ramachandrapura Flaws in property tax payment system

Errors in data entry have not been corrected by the BBMP in the online property tax payment system. In my case, the old zone letter has been wrongly entered and cannot be edited. Also, the data on my house which was constructed four years ago (and tax paid on it for the last four years) is missing, even though the application number for the last year has been accepted!

Instead, data on my old house has been entered. The BBMP should accept complaints from individuals and attend to them. Otherwise, many property owners eager to pay the taxes will be unable to do so.
