After years of neglect, the Church Street is set to get a makeover soon, going by the words of Bengaluru Development Minister K J George.

During his inspection of the road on Wednesday, the minister directed the engineers of the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike to speed up the process executing TenderSURE work on the Church Street. He suggested white topping of the road instead of asphaltation.

The pothole-ridden Church Street has become a nightmare for commuters, pedestrians and commercial establishments.

Overflowing sewage and broken pavements mark this road, a prime destination in the Central Business District.

After giving an earful to the assistant executive engineer of the ward, George directed BBMP and the BWSSB engineers to initiate criminal action against those discharging sewage into the drain.

While inspecting the ongoing TenderSURE work on Residency Road, the minister instructed the officials to speed up the project while ensuring quality.

He also inspected the Richmond Road junction, where road was damaged due to water leakage from two buildings nearby.
