Colours, prints and patterns are definitely in this season. While many make a statement with the clothes they wear, ‘Indian Kitchen’ makes its statement  as soon as one walks into the restaurant.

With vibrant colours, patterns and interesting prints across the room, it definitely has the ‘oomph’ element that one is looking for in a fun dining experience.

The restaurant makes a lovely option for a quiet dinner as the city skyline paints a pretty picture.

Even though some of the dining tables are close to each other, one can sit comfortably without being disturbed by the other party.

The flavours in the restaurant can be traced to the Mughals, British, Arabs and Portuguese. It provides a good mix of the Indian dishes that one is used to having regularly.

As they are known for their ‘tandoori’ food and ‘kebabs’, there are a number of options for one to choose from.

The ‘Chicken ghee roast’ and ‘Chicken Chettinad’ are well-cooked and succulent. The ‘mutton sheekh’ is also an interesting choice but it might make you feel heavy after a plate.

The ‘Jhinga nisha’, king prawns marinated in brown onion paste and crushed peppers, gives one a soothing feel. And as one cuts or bites into the ‘Patr-ni-machhi’, a traditional Parsi preparation of steamed fish marinated in coriander, mint and chilli, you’ll realise that you want to order more.

However, the vegetarian options in appetisers aren’t as great as one would hope for. The ‘Paneer lifafa’ is the only safe option.

For the main course, the restaurant offers everything you would like to have. They have a variety of breads to choose from. The ‘Taftaan’ and ‘butter naan’ go perfectly well with the ‘butter chicken curry’ and ‘nizami handi curry’.

The ‘dal makhani’ is rich and delicious. The ‘dal khichadi’ is also well-recommended in the main course.

Like any Indian-influenced restaurant, ‘Indian Kitchen’ also offers the regular desserts to end your meal.

But the one that might catch your eye is the ‘Khubani ka meetha’, which
is dried apricots with syrup topped with blanched almonds and fresh cream.
The ‘Indian Kitchen payesh’ is also an interesting choice for those who want to keep it light.

To wash down the meal, the restaurant also offers interesting cocktails and mocktails.
The ‘Khata Banta’ and ‘Babaji ka booti’ are mocktails that one can have with all your dishes. To add an extra punch, try some of their cocktails with the base that you prefer.
‘Indian Kitchen’ is located 86, Oak Shot Place, M G Road. For reservations, call 25598995.
