Indian TV doesn't explore complexities in characters: Mouli

Last Updated 20 July 2016, 11:07 IST

Actress Mouli Ganguly feels the small screen does not explore various layers and shades in characters.

The "Kaahin Kissii Roz" stars, however, also believes actors can still play interesting characters within that restricted frame.

"In our TV, we don't go with complete complexity in our characters. Things are kept quite simple in a black and white way...there is a set pattern which TV follows," Mouli told PTI.

"And they follow that pattern may be because it works. From an actor's point of view, all I can say is there still can be interesting and complex characters to play on screen," she said.

The actress, who has appeared in several shows like "Kkusum", "Saakshi" and "Laagi Tujhse Lagan", says today many TV shows are not running for a long time as the audiences need a "change."

"Nowadays serials don't run for a long time. May be people are not watching them because we are giving them the same thing. May be there is a need for change."

The 33-year-old actress will be now seen on the Zee TV show "Jamai Raja" in the role of a shrewd and dominating woman.

Mouli said she came on board for the show as she found the character interesting.
"The character is very interesting. I felt I will be able to do it and also the fact that it was different from my last show, which was mythological. It has a lot of shades, control and power to it.

"This character has a certain vanity, which she carries. It is something like what Cate Blanchett did in 'Cinderella'. I hope the audience like it," she said.

The "Suryaputra Karn" star said she is also keen on doing limited series because its fixed duration will help plan her graph better and allow her breaks in between shows.
