Forus Health, a Bengaluru-based affordable ophthalmic technology and solutions company, on Saturday said that it would come up with two more products, and would touch the three million people-mark in around 40 countries.

“We have decided to come up with two more products to solve refractive error, an error in focusing of light by the eye and a reason for reduced visual acuity. Globally, the number of people with refractive errors is estimated to be between 800 million and 2.3 billion,” said Forus Health CEO K Chandrasekhar in an interaction with DH.

The company on Saturday launched its third product ROP (retinopathy of prematurity) imaging device with a breakthrough technology, which has made it affordable at one-fourth of the existing product price in the US.

“The ROP imaging device will make neonatal screening a possibility not only in India but also in developed countries. We are now present in 25 countries and catering to 1.5 million people. Already 1,100 units of our first two products are installed across the world. We are proud to be a part of the Make in India initiative,” he said. Chandrasekhar said the company has already received approvals from regulatory authorities from various countries, including the US, Canada and the European Union.

The company was founded in 2010 by Shyam Vasudeva Rao and K Chandrasekhar with a mission to address healthcare delivery issues through innovative product design and service deployment. It has already launched two products — 3nethra Classic and 3nethra Royal. These products can pre-screen five ophthalmic ailments that collectively contribute to nearly 90% of blindness in India.

Accel Partners and IDG Ventures India helped the company raise Series A funding. Forus Health further raised Series B funding of Rs 50 crore in January 2014, led by Asian Healthcare Fund. Accel Partners and IDG Ventures India, the existing investors, also participated in the funding.
