Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday expressed his gratitude to President Pranab Mukherjee for his guidance and support, saying he virtually made him walk holding his hand “like a guardian and mentor” on many occasions.
Speaking at an event organised in Rashtrapati Bhavan to mark the President’s fourth year in office, Modi also noted that though he and Mukherjee came from “different political backgrounds”, they always worked together in harmony.
Responding to Modi’s remark, the President said he was guided by his Constitutional responsibility to take “correct decisions” as his predecessors did.
“When I came to Delhi, it was a completely new world to me. But at that juncture, President made me walk by holding my fingers like a guardian,” Modi said.
