While most of the majors stars from world football are normally absent in Olympics, still some stars -- emerging and established -- turn up for their countries.
Deccan Herald looks at some who could capture the imagination of the fans.
Neymar: The Brazilian superstar needs no introduction. Terrorizing the defender with his pace, deft touches and natural skill, Brazil will banking heavily on Neymar.
Marquinhos: He’s been a part of the Paris Saint-Germain first team for a while, which include the likes of Thiago Silva, Maxwell and David Luiz. While his first-team opportunities have been limited, this could be where the defender emerges as the next big name in Brazilian football.
Max Meyer: The 20-year-old attacking midfielder from Schalke is been tipped as the next big thing in Germany. Meyer is known for his speed and dribbling abilities.
Heung-min Son: South Korean’s first season at the Premier League side Tottenham Hotspurs was marred by injuries. Restricted to a handful games under manager Mauricio Pochettino, the 24-year-old did show his quality whenever brought into attack.
