A scooter-borne woman got killed when her two-wheeler collided with an electric pole while she was chasing a bike-borne man who had snatched her purse in Outer Delhi’s Samaipur Badli, the police said.

Her body was found few feet away from her two-wheeler lying in bushes. She was rushed to a nearby hospital where she was declared brought dead.

The police said that Princey Rana (27), a teacher in Sarvodaya Kanya Vidyalaya, was driving without helmet, and the accident resulted in a fatal injury on her head.

Princey was going to her school on Tuesday morning when the incident happened.
“Had she been wearing a helmet she would have survived the collision,” said a police officer.

According to the police they found her purse couple of kilometres away from the accident spot in a residential area. CCTV footage is being scanned to find out the identity of the person who brought the purse and dropped it there.

The police have found an eyewitness who saw the woman chasing a bike-borne man on her scooter on Tuesday morning.

“The eyewitness is from Bihar and is a labourer. We are waiting for his formal statement,” said a police officer investigating the case.

According to Princey’s husband Mayank, she left for school around 6.30 am. A resident of Bakner village, Princey used to commute seven kilometres daily between her house and school on her two-wheeler.

Couple of kilometres away from her house, she was found lying injured in bushes by a few people working in nearby realestate office while they were walking there.

“The men informed the police and a police van took her to a nearby hospital where she was declared brought dead,” said a police officer.

Princey’s husband confirmed to the police that she was carrying a purse, which the police found couple of kilometres away from the accident spot. The police sources suspect that the man snatched her purse while she was on her vehicle following which she gave him a chase and got injured after colliding with an electric pole.

Princey has a four-year-old daughter, and her husband is currently unemployed. She hails from Punjab’s Ferozepur district.

A case of rash driving (section 279), causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others (section 337), and punishment for culpable homicide not amounting to murder (section 304) have been registered in Samaypur Badli Police station.
