Arrest of GP member sought

Dalit Sangharsh Samithi district organising convener H R Parashuram has demanded that Kannanngala gram panchayat former president K S Gopalakrishna should be arrested for committing atrocity against gram panchayat president Y S Ishwari.

Addressing mediapersons in the city on Friday, he said Ishwari was not allowed to move out of the plantation and was not paid wages. Her signature was taken for the development works for one year. Interrogation should be conducted in this regard, he demanded.

A case will be registered in the court in connection with the issue, he said.
Also, the panchayat development officer has not invited Ishwari to any gram panchayat meeting. He should be suspended immediately, Parashuram said. He said that Ishwari was made to work like a bonded labour in a plantation and her children were not allowed to go to school.

He warned that district-wide protests will be staged if no necessary action is initiated. The state government has not been providing protection to dalits and the atrocities against dalits by people belonging to upper class of the society has increased, he claimed.

DSS district convener Krishnappa urged K S Gopalakrishna should be arrested and Ishwari should be given a house. She should also be compensated by the gram panchayat.

DSS district organising convener Rajanikant, members Rajappa, Kiran and Kaushan were present at the press meet.
