An ‘open court’ pronouncement on the Satluj-Yamuna Link (SYL) canal issue could lead to a law and order problem in poll-bound Punjab, state Congress chief Capt Amarinder Singh said.
The former chief minister on Friday said as the Supreme Court is dealing with the matter on presidential reference, the order on this issue must be handed out in a sealed envelope. Singh pledged that all the Congress MLAs in Punjab will resign en-masse if the court's order was ‘against the interests of Punjab’.
In 2004, as chief minster of Punjab, Singh had terminated all the water-sharing pacts with neighbouring states, unanimously in the Punjab Vidhan Sabha.
The matter is currently under review following a presidential reference. On the issue of SLY, Singh accused the SAD of ‘running with the hare and hunting with the hound’.
“The Centre has informed the apex court they do not stand by the Termination Act. Harsimrat Kaur Badal, who is a Union minster, should have resigned by now,” he said in Chandigarh.
Singh said his primary election agenda will be the issue of drugs. “We are reaching out to the youth through Skype and other events like ‘Coffee with Captain’,” he said.
