Nigerians held for cheating job seekers

Both the accused were staying in Mandawali

Two Nigerians who were duping people on the pretext of sending them abroad for jobs were arrested by Crime Branch. Both the accused Michael James, 30, and Umeadi Valentine Chigozie, 32, were staying in East Delhi’s Mandawali.

The case came to the fore when one Ganagalakshmi approached Crime Branch’s Cyber Cell and alleged that she was cheated of Rs 2, 25,600 by some unknown people on the pretext of providing her job in Qatar Airways.

The victim said the accused took the amount from her in parts in the form of Visa charges, processing fee, medical fee and to transfer access code etc. A team of Crime Branch officials was constituted who started working on the case and based on mobile surveillance of the accused, the team found out that the cheats were residing somewhere in the area of Mandawali.

After zeroing in on the location of the accused the team raided at house No.B-31, at Gurudwara Road, Mandawali on Wednesday where both of the accused were apprehended.
Both the accused were later arrested under section 41.1(b) of Code of Criminal Procedure (Cr.P.C).

Fifty-two SIM cards, two data cards, three laptops and five mobile phones were recovered from their possession including the mobile handset used in cheating. During interrogation, they confessed to their crime and disclosed that they had cheated other people also in the same manner. Since both of them told the police that they had lost their passports they were produced in Karkardooma Court on Thursday from where Telangana Police took their transit remand for four days.
