Madikeri town all set for Dasara Janotsava

The town is all set for the historic Madikeri Dasara which will start from Sunday with the procession of Karagas from  four ‘Shakthi Devatha’ temples in the city.

The entire town has been illuminated to give it a special look befitting the occasion.
The Karagas of Kote Mariyamma, Kanchikamakshiyamma, Kundoor Motte Mariyamma and Dandina Mariyamma will leave for Pampinakere on Sunday afternoon. After the rituals, they are set for rounds in the city, thus formally heralding the start of the Madikeri Dasara.

Mahila, Makkala Dasara
Mahila and Makkala Dasara will be held on account Madikeri Janotsava.  Mahila Dasara will be held at 10 am on October 7. The exhibition and sale of products prepared by women SHG members will be held.

Millets fair, Mehandi design competition, breaking the pot by tying cloth to eyes and wearing Indian traditional dresses and other competitions will be held as part of Mahila Dasara.

Yuva Dasara and Makkala Dasara will be held on October 8 and 9 respectively.

Cultural programmes
The cultural programmes will be held at Gandhi Maidan, Kala Sambhrama Vedike, in Madikeri every day at 6 pm from October 3. The details of the programmes to be held are: 

October 3 — Cultural programmes by Natya Mayoori School, Virajpet; dance by a team from Madikeri Green Town Mountain College; Dance mela by Bhairavi dance troupe, Bengaluru, and ‘Karagata’ by Sharada Kalakshetra, Kushalnagar.

October 4 — Kuchipudi, Mohiniyattam by artistes of Jaganmohana Natyalaya, Virajpet; variety of dance by Madikeri Nellakki Yuvathi Mandali; ‘Gana Sambhrama’ by Srinivas and team; dance by Jnana Aithal.

October 5 — ‘Hasya Lahari’ by Kundapura Sathish Pai and team; dance variety by Kaveri Kala Parishath; dance by team attitude of Kushalnagar and ‘Dance by Botlpappa Yuvaka Sangha.

October 6 — Taekwondo dance by Coorg Taekwondo Centre; variety of dance by Riborn Dance School, Madikeri; ‘Bhava Sangama’ by Sneha Sangama; Ganalahari by Givindaraju, Kushalnagar Bharamanna Betageri team; variety of dance by Cauvery Art School, Kushalnagar.

October 7 — ‘Bhava Lahari’ by singer M D Pallavi; Thiruvathira Kali by Nair Service Society, Madikeri; dance variety by Spandana Mahila team, Madikeri; Vyaghra dance by Tandavam team of Mysuru; Chande Vadya by women’s team of Srimuthappan Chandemela, Maldare.

October 9 — dance by the students of General Thimmaiah Public School and Little Flower, Madikeri; Veeragase performance by Mishal team of Kushalnagar; magic show by Jaggu Magician and team of Mysuru; Royal Rhythms by Rythm Makers team, Mysuru; folk programmes by special children of Suntikoppa Swasta School; Yaksha Prathibha Darshana by Karnataka Arebhashe Sahitya Mathu Samskruthi Academy; lighting dance by Angel Wings of Kushalnagar.

October 10 — various cultural programmes by Kodagu Gowda Yuva Vedike; dance by Dazzling Stars of Madikeri; Dance by D Company in Madikeri; dance by Ultimate Waves team and dance ballet by Natyanikethana team.

October 11— Kodava cultural programmes by Karnataka Kodava Sahitya Academy; Gananritya Vaibhava by Bhargava Nritya team; laser and beam show by the Department of Information and Public Relations; variety of dance by Tandavam Dance School, Madikeri; Skating dance by Kodagu Roller Skating Association and Arebhashe cultural variety by Karnataka Arebhashe Samskruthi Mathu Sahitya Academy.

Dashamantapas
The highlight of the Madikeri Dasara is Dashamantapa procession to mark the end
of Dasara festivities in Madikeri. The Dashamantapas give a different experience to the visitors. The Dashamantapa Samithi members, who raise funds from the public, are busy with giving a final touch to the tableaux.

The Dashamantaps portray themes of divine forces victory over evil. Scenes from mythology are the hallmarks of the Dashamantapa procession, the members of the committee said.

The labourers are engaged in giving a final touch to the stage where cultural programmes will be organised on account of Dasara.

Even all the shops and business establishments are decked for the celebrations.
