In order to create awareness about issues faced by people with disabilities (PwDs), and abolish stereotypes, myths and misconceptions associated with them, the eighth edition of ‘We Care Film Festival’ was recently organised at the Apeejay Institute of Mass Communication (AIMC), Dwarka.
The three-day festival showcased 19 national and international award winning films in association with an internationally recognised NGO, Brotherhood.
From documentaries and short films, to public interest ad-films and fiction, the festival showcased entries from UK, Iran, Italy, Lebanon, among others.
The travelling film festival saw more than 1,000 entries from 91 countries across the globe.
“Such festivals help in sensitising masses on disability issues and foster integration in the society by spreading the message of ability through the medium of cinema,” said Sushma Paul Berlia, chairman Apeejay Education Society, co-promoter and president, Apeejay Stya and Svrán Group.
Some of the prominent films included Feet in the Sand (India), Bharat
(India), Elsewhere (Italy), The Blind of the Cathedral (Lebanon), Turning A Page (Trinidad and Tobago), Make Me Louder (United Kingdom), The Steps Of One Hand (Iran), Film 20 (Ukraine) and Traveller (Myanmar).
A fashion show by PwDs, a workshops on experiences of a filmmaker, and a photography and painting exhibition on disability were other highlights of the festival.
