The commute upto MLR Convention Centre, Whitefield, was a rather long and winding one, especially for those coming from the other side of town. But it was well-worth it as actors Mona Singh and Rohit Roy lit up the stage with their stupendous performance. Protagonists of the play ‘Unfaithfully Yours’, the duo kept the audience glued to their seats during the two-hour fairytale romance directed and produced by Raell Padamsee under the banner of Ace Productions.

Portraying the characters of Akash and Preet, the two are happily married but with a twist — not to each other. They meet at a friend’s wedding where they engage in a one-night stand which blossoms into love. And that then is the beginning of a 26-year-long relationship packed with passion, romance, comedy and lots of drama.
The performance was held together by the flawless acting skills of Rohit and Mona who were at their natural best. Though the story revolves around an extra-marital affair, one can’t help but fall in love with the tale, given the romance that blooms between Akash and Preet.

There are wonderful moments of comedy cleverly woven in between which elicited much laughter from the audience. All the elements, including the drama quotient, were in equal measure and kept people engaged in the performance. The production, strictly meant for adults, received a standing ovation.

Priti Agarwal, a viewer, said, “It was a journey of a lifetime between two complete strangers, from lust to love and happiness. It was a well-written and acted out love saga of people coming from different worlds. Their pragmatic approach to life and completely ethereal connect was portrayed very realistically.”

As for the actors, it was their friendship off screen that translated into the sizzling chemistry on stage. “I’ve worked with Rohit before as well. We’ve done a short film together and hosted shows together and I get along really well with him. He called me up for the play and it sounded fabulous to me, given the romantic at heart that I am. When we started rehearsing, we thought this is the best thing we could do together. Now that we are travelling together and getting great reviews for the play, we want to do more shows,” said Mona with a beaming smile.

“The biggest reason for doing this play is that I’ve been wanting to do theatre for the longest time. I was approached by a lot of people to do theatre but nothing ever fell into place. When Raell came with this script, the first person that came to mind was Mona because of the degree of comfort we share and it worked out well.

We are great friends off stage and that comfort translates into chemistry on stage,” said Rohit. So does he believe in extra-marital affairs? “Well, my wife doesnt let me!,” said the handsome actor with a laugh. He was glad to know that the Bengaluru audience liked the play as he remarked, “Well, I was apprehensive at first, there are so many intellectual, high-funda people here.”
