Following the Bellandur building collapse where three people were killed, Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike commissioner N Manjunatha Prasad has threatened stringent action against builders who violate building byelaws.

In a press release issued on Thursday, the commissioner said builders have to strictly adhere to sanctioned building plans prepared by a panel of architects and structural engineers, listed on the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike’s website.

Progress reports
He said empanelled engineers will have to submit progress reports at regular intervals at the time of construction. In case of any violations, the empanelled engineers and Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike ward engineers will be held accountable.

The commissioner said that there should be necessary approvals for breaking rocks while of laying foundations.

“Only lab-tested and approved construction material must be used,’’ he said, adding that all test reports along with the progress report of the building must be submitted to the BBMP at definite intervals.
