Doctors at Apollo Hospitals, where Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa was admitted a month ago, said she started interacting, suggesting a remarkable progress in health.

Director of medical services at the hospital, Dr N Sathyabhama said on Friday that the chief minister continued to be under treatment and observation for all vital parameters, respiratory support and passive physiotherapy.

According to her, team of experts of the critical care group, senior cardiologists, senior respiratory physicians, senior consultants and the infectious diseases department, senior endocrinologist and diabetologist of Apollo Hospitals have been giving treatment and care to the chief minister.

Dr Sathyabhama said nutrition and essential nutrient intake was being attended to by senior consultants from the dietary team. “The chief minister is interacting and progressing gradually,” she said.

As Jayalalithaa is showing improvement and responding to the treatment well, the UK expert is expected to visit her in the next two days to re-examine her even as AIIMS doctors have also kept in touch with the Apollo Hospitals doctors. Jayalalithaa was admitted to Apollo Hospitals on September 22 following fever and dehydration. Hospital sources said that most of the health issues mentioned in the earlier bulletin with regard to chief minister were successfully treated.

“All the health parameters, including diabetes and blood pressure, are under control,” sources said, adding that if this improvement continues, Jayalalithaa is likely to be discharged soon. Two female physiotherapist experts from Singapore are also performing therapies.
