High-level meet on coastal, internal security

Coastal security, internal security, issuance of biometric identity cards to fishermen and issue of card readers, formulation of plans for countering terrorism and modernisation of the police force were among the issues discussed at a high-level meeting chaired by Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh in Mumbai on Friday.

The 22nd meeting of the Western Zonal Council consisting of states of Maharashtra, Gujarat, Goa and Union Territories of Daman & Diu and Dadra & Nagar Haveli was held in Mumbai which was also attended by Union Minister of State for Home Hansraj Ahir.

The meeting was attended by the chief ministers and ministers of these states and administrators of Union Territories as well as senior officers of the central and the state governments.

“The council reviewed the progress of implementation of the recommendations made in the last meeting,” official sources said. Other important issues discussed were Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojna (Urban) Mission, surplus lands of Central government for ‘Housing for All : 2022’ and providing shelters to the urban homeless.
