At the passing out parade of the 40th batch of probationary police sub-inspectors organised by the Karnataka Police Academy (KPA) in Mysuru, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, on Saturday, urged police officers to be proactive, people-friendly, act  tough on anti-social elements and not succumb to pressures at work.

The CM expressed concern over the inability of some police personnel to handle stress at work. He advised the young police officers to maintain good health, both physical and mental, as that would help them tackle situations more effectively. Admitting that many a times, police personnel risk their lives, he rued that as many as 22 police personnel in Karnataka and 473 police officers on duty had died in the country last year.

He urged the police personnel to think beyond caste, creed and religion and discharge their duties without fear.

“Newly recruited police officers should time and again recall the oath administered to them during the passing out parade as, if  they follow the oath, they can enjoy service satisfaction too,” he added.

The CM reiterated the fact that police personnel should not be prejudiced while executing their duty as only then will the general public feel free to approach them and in turn, crime against women and the underprivileged be checked. He also hoped that more stringent measures would help check organised crime so as to reduce anti-social activities and maintain peace in the State.

The CM expressed concern over the general public losing faith in the police force and enthused the officers to work towards regaining the same by being respectful and patient.

Earlier, the CM released a video on police training and launched the KPA website: kpa.gov.in where all details about the activities of the KPA will be made available.

Home Minister G Parameshwara, advisor to Home Minister Kempaiah, Director General and Inspector General of Police (DG&IGP) Om Prakash, DGP Prem Shankar Meena, IGP (Training) Alok Kumar, KPA Director Vipul Kumar, IG (Southern Range) B K Singh, Deputy Commissioner D Randeep and Superintendent of Police Ravi D Chennannavar were present at the parade.
