Bosch staffer attempts suicide

An employee of Bosch, who was terminated from work, attempted suicide by consuming sleeping pills at his house in Dasarahalli in Peenya in the early hours of Saturday.

According to the police, Praveen M, a native of Hassan, was terminated by the company along with hundreds of the other employees. They were staging a protest against the management for laying them off unceremoniously. He was upset that he did not have a stable job and had to struggle to make ends meet. Around 5 am, he consumed sleeping pills. He was shifted to a nearby private hospital where he is said to be out of danger. When the police enquired with his friends, they learnt that Praveen was depressed and sent a message on the Whatsapp group before attempting suicide. His friends, who saw the message, rushed to his house and found him lying unconscious and shifted him to a nearby private hospital.

The Whatsapp message sent by Praveen stated that on August 17, 2015, around 263 employees who had been working for the company for 10 years were fired without any prior notice. The ongoing protest has entered the 432nd day, but there is no progress. A meeting with top officials of the company, which was scheduled on Saturday, was called off late on Friday night. Praveen felt disheartened and mentioned that the top management of the company is responsible for the act, mentioned the police.

Recently, Praveen’s father, who was the only earning member of the family, died. Praveen was struggling to earn a livelihood and decided to commit suicide. The doctors have declared that Praveen is out of danger and is recovering. For now, no case has been registered, but Praveen’s statement has been recorded, added the police.

Meanwhile, Labour Minister Santosh Lad met the family of the victim. He assured justice in the matter and also promised to meet the hospital expenses.
