Dr Agarwal’s Eye Hospital, a comprehensive eye hospital offering a one-stop solution for eye ailments, will be adding four more centres in Karnataka to take the total number of centres in the state to 12. The hospital has recently launched its sixth state-of-the-art centre in Bengaluru.

Speaking to DH, CEO of Dr Agarwal’s Eye Hospital, Dr Adil Agarwal, said, “Currently, we are planning to strengthen our presence across West Bengal and Karnataka, and are entering new markets such as Kerala and Maharashtra. In the next three years, we want to add around 55 centres in India and 15 overseas and make the total number of centres to 130.”

He further said, “Our vision is to redefine the eye care delivery system in India. We aim to set up an eye hospital at every 5 km distance. In this regard, we are looking at adding seven tertiary centres and 40 secondary centres by the end of FY2017-18.”

At present, the hospital has 70 centres spread across India, Africa, East Asia and the Indian Ocean region. It has six centres in Bengaluru and 15 centres in Africa. Sharing his views on the business model, Dr Agarwal said, “We have moved away from primary centres. Our focus is on building secondary and tertiary centres. At present, we have 10 tertiary centres and 60 secondary centres in the country.”

The company has recorded a total income of Rs 39.32 crore for the quarter ending September 30, against Rs 36.73 crore of the same period last year. The company has recorded a total income of Rs 137 crore for the fiscal year ending March 2016.
Commenting on the growth and competition in the market, Dr Agarwal said, “We are growing at a healthy rate of around 25%. There are no pan-India players. The space is dominated by regional players.”

Started in 1957, the hospital has 15 branches in Chennai and a visible footprint in the states of Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Odisha, Andaman and Rajasthan. A tertiary eye care centre at Mauritius marks its first step towards establishing an international presence extended up to 13 branches covering the Indian Ocean region, African countries and East Asia.
