Tipu Jayanti: Ban orders in three districts

With just two days left for Tipu Jayanti, the district administrations and the police have clamped prohibitory order under CrPC Section 144 in Chikkamagaluru, Madikeri and Chitradurga districts. The orders in Chikkamagaluru will be in place from Monday midnight to November 11 morning, SP K Annamalai said. 

Briefing reporters on Monday, he said Tipu Jayanti will be observed on November 10 and Dattamala Abhiyana will be held in the district from November 12 to 20. A total of 12 checkposts will be set up to monitor the movement of vehicles during Tipu Jayanti, he stated. 

In Madikeri, Deputy Commissioner Richard Vincent D’Souza has clamped prohibitory order across the district from 4 pm on Monday to 8 am on Friday (November 11) to maintain peace in the district. 

The prohibitory orders will be relaxed on Tuesday from 10 am to 12 noon on Madikeri’s DC office premises, Virajpet, Somwarpet, Madikeri taluk office premises for a government programme. Similarly, the order will be relaxed on November 10 at the Tipu Jayanti programme venue premises in Madikeri, Virajpet and Somwarpet between 9.30 am to 11.30 am. A peace meeting convened by the district administration saw stiff opposition for the Tipu Jayanti from various quarters. 

The VHP, Bajrang Dal, Tipu Jayanti Acharane Virodhi Horata Samithi and Jaya Karnataka Sangha have given a call for Kodagu bandh on November 10, opposing Tipu Jayanti.  Briefing mediapersons, Horata Samithi District president Abhimanyu Kumar said Martyr’s Day will be observed in the name of Kuttappa (who died during last year’s celebration) on November 10. Meanwhile, the police have also imposed prohibitory orders in Chitradurga town under CrPC Section 144 from 6 pm on Monday, following a call to protest against Tipu Jayanti. SP Arun Rangarajan said all precautionary measures have been taken to maintain law and order in the town. More than 1,000 policemen conducted a route march. Tight security is in place as 1,000 policemen and Home Guards are guarding the city, he added.
