Israel on Tuesday agreed to step up its manufacturing and production partnerships with India to boost bilateral defence cooperation.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s meeting with visiting Israeli President Reuven Rivlin here saw both sides agreeing to give a boost to counterterrorism cooperation.

“We recognise that terrorism is a global challenge, knows no boundaries and has extensive links with other forms of organised crime. Regrettably, one of the countries of its origin and spread is in India’s neighbourhood,” Modi said without directly referring to Pakistan. He was making a statement before reporters along with Rivlin. He said that India and Israel had also agreed that the international community must act with resolve and determination against terror networks and the states that harboured them.

India and Israel on Tuesday also inked two agreements to step up cooperation in agriculture and water resources management.

“Nothing can justify terror. Terror is terror. Terror is terror and terror is terror,” said Rivlin, who is on his maiden visit to India. He extended Israel’s total support to India in the fight against terrorism. He also renewed an invitation to the prime minister to visit Israel.

India and Israel agreed to intensify prioritised “practical and specific engagement” in the cyber domain as well as in other fields, said Modi.
