43-year-old kills two sons, surrenders

Last Updated 17 November 2016, 04:06 IST

A 43-year-old man strangled his two children to death in northwest Delhi’s Mahindra Park area on Wednesday morning.

After killing his children, the accused Mukesh, called up the police and informed them about the incident. He has been arrested.

Mukesh was unemployed and living with sons Aayush, 16, and Aryan, 8, in a four-storey house in Sanjay Nagar colony. He quit working in a private company soon after his wife, Jyoti, died over a year ago due to illness.

The incident took place around 4.30 am, around which time the police received a call from Mukesh, informing them that he had murdered his sons. “We got a call early in the morning from Mukesh. He told us that he had killed both his sons and that he wanted to surrender,” said a senior police officer.

The police reached the spot and to find Mukesh in mourning, both his children were found in their bedroom.

Due to his financial status and psychological troubles, Mukesh, was fighting severe bouts of depression. His relatives said that he had withdrawn from all social activities. However, the last straw that completely broke Mukesh was when his neighbour had complained that he had constructed the top floor of his house violating the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) norms.

The neighbour, Ashok Chaudhary, had complained that water seepage problem was occurring in his house after Mukesh constructed the new floors.

“We began having water seepage in our house after Mukesh started construction of new floors in his house. Later my father filed a complaint. So Mukesh turned almost everyone in the locality against us,” said daughter of Chaudhary.

MCD, taking cognizance of the complaint, was set to demolish the top floor of his house on November 17. This  setback is what had compelled him to make the extreme step of strangling both his sons to death.

After Mukesh was taken away by police, locals crowded outside Chaudhary’s house and began shouting abusive words. Some locals said that Mukesh had also given a bribe of R 2 lakhs to Chaudhary in order for the latter to take back the complaint.

“We have shifted both the bodies but as of now their autopsy has not been conducted. Preliminary investigation reveals that he had strangled them to death. We are yet to confirm it,” said a senior police officer.

A case of murder has been registered at Mahindra Park police station. Mukesh is currently being interrogated.
