Nadam is hosting the ‘17th Kala Nadam Festival’, a classical dance extravaganza, on November 25, 26 and 27, 5.30 pm onwards, at ADA Ranga Mandira, JC Road.

On the first day, Jyotsna Jagannathan will present a bharathanatyam recital. Over a short period of time, Jyotsna gained recognition as one of the gifted bharatanatyam dancers of the next generation and has earned a name for herself as a dancer to watch.

This will be followed by a kathak performance by Kumar Sharma, a National Scholarship holder in kathak from the Ministry of Culture. Sharat Prabhat and Bharat Prabhat will also present ‘Kathastra’ on the day.

The second day of the festival will commence with an odissi performance by Padma Shri Ileana Citaristi, who has been mentored by Padma Vibhushan Kelucharan Mohapatra.
Then there will be a kathak performance by founders of Nadam, Nandini K Mehta and K Murali Mohan.

The last performance for the evening is a bharathanatyam recital by Roja Kannan and her disciples.

Roja is a bharathanatyam artiste from Chennai and has had her training under legendary teachers Adyar K Lakshman and Kalanidhi Narayanan.

She has over four decades of professional performing experience and hundreds of performances and lecture demonstrations to her credit both in India and abroad.

On the closing day of the festival, A Lakshman will present a bharathanatyam performance.

Lakshman heads ‘Nrithyalakshana’, an institute for classical arts in Chennai where he imparts training in bhartanatyam in its most authentic and pure form.

Following this is a kathak performance by Poorna Acharya, an empanelled artist with ICCR through Nadam and a graded kathak artiste in Doordarshan.

The programme will conclude with ‘Crossing Oceans’, a dance production by odissi artiste from Mumbai, Daksha Mashruwala, and her troupe. Daksha continues to promote awareness and love for odissi dance through her various productions.

The money raised from the event will be used to support Angels Orphanage.
