Siddu: A second home in Hubballi can't bring HDK back to power

Last Updated 24 November 2016, 19:47 IST

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Thursday took potshots at state JD(S) president H D Kumaraswamy’s move to make Hubballi his ‘second home’ stating that such tactics would not bring the party to power.

“You can never come to power — whether you make Hubballi or Kalaburagi as your second home,” Siddaramaiah told JD(S) members in the Legislative Assembly while participating in a debate on the drought situation in the state.

Siddaramaiah was referring to Kumaraswamy’s decision to spend at least 10 days in a month at his ‘second home’ in Hubballi to tour the northern parts of the state and
strengthen the JD(S) in the region.

He said that Kumaraswamy was hoodwinking people by stating that the JD(S) would waive crop loans borrowed by farmers within 24 hours of coming to power.

‘Waive crop loans’
Earlier, JD(S) member Y S V Datta had challenged Siddaramaiah to waive crop loans.
“If you do not waive the loans, we will make it an issue and come to power,” Datta had said.

The debate also witnessed Siddaramaiah recalling his days in the JD(S).
“If I had remained in the JD(S), I would not have become chief minister in my life,” he stated.

Siddaramaiah did not spare Kumaraswamy and his party in the Legislative Council too. Stating that only the Congress was in a position to come back to power, he said that neither the BJP nor the JD(S) stood a chance.

“Kumaraswamy may have said, ‘Agali baar, Kumaraswamy sarkar’. But this is unrealistic. People will never accept your party. How can they? The JD(S) and the BJP did not even complete the term during the 20-20 coalition government. The parties should stop daydreaming,” he said.

Addressing JD(S) and BJP members Basavaraj Horatti, K B Shanappa, V Somanna and Puttanna, the chief minister said, “You are our people. Don’t listen to Yeddyurappa, Eshwarappa and Jagadish Shettar — the party will never come back to power.”

‘Pauper’s dream’
Leader of the Opposition K S Eshwarappa said that Siddaramaiah was dreaming a “pauper’s dream”. “Neither will the JD(S) come to power, nor will the Congress,” he said.
