Kejri terms note ban a flop show

Last Updated 29 November 2016, 10:08 IST

Terming demonetisation as a flop show, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday lashed out at the Centre saying it has failed to check black money, corruption and terror funding which have 'increased by 10 per cent' since the announcement.

“During his address to the nation, the PM had stated corruption, black money, terrorism and fake notes as the reasons for demonetisation. But the corruption and blackmoney issues have increased by 10 per cent in November as compared to October,” Kejriwal said.

“After 20 days of the notes ban, the policy seems to have failed miserably. It has come out to be a big crisis on the nation and it is a flop show,” he said.

The CM said several incidents of bribery have been reported from all corners of the country and PM’s decision has made it easier for the people to take bribes. He questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi about the total amount of black money recovered by the government following his decision.

“According to the statistics given by the government, Rs 8 lakh crore have deposited so far. I would question the PM to give an account of the black money of the total money collected,” he said, adding, black marketing has increased with Dollar being sold at Rs 116 and gold being sold at Rs 56,000 in black.

He alleged that the business of fake notes have increased and they are producing notes faster than the Reserve Bank of India.

Highlighting the plight of the common people, he said that several people have died and many have incurred losses in their businesses.

“People are not getting cash from the ATM, but terrorists have the new Rs 2,000 notes. It is because of the stubborness and ego of the Prime Minister that the country has gone backwards by 10 years in the last 20 days due to the decision,” he said.

The CM accused the PM of hiding the blackmoney of his party and his corporate friends. He alleged that many BJP leaders have flaunted bundles of new Rs 2,000 notes even before the announcement.

“BJP leaders have bought land across the country. Sanjeev Chaurasia, a BJP MLA from Bihar said that they were mere signatories and the directions along with the funding to buy the land came from the BJP's central committee.

“Chaurasia admitted that they were told to buy lands till November 8. While some of them were bought in cash others were bought in cheque. Some lands were even purchased on behalf of BJP national President Amit Shah,” he claimed.

Levelling charges of bribery on the PM, Kejriwal said that Modi is shying away from the Parliament because he has taken money from his corporate friends namely Sahara and Birla.

“If the PM is clean then  he should come to the Parliament and be a part of the discussions. His absence raises suspicion and establishes the facts that he had taken bribe from Sahara and Birla as found in their records,” he said.

He asked the Centre to declare a date till when the common man can withdraw their money without any limits and live a hassle-free life.

He critised the Centre's decision reducing the rates on fixed deposit and said the move would affect the common people thereby demanding its rollback.
