Conmen robbed a group of friends who went to exchange old notes for new ones at Nimbekaipura near Avalahalli on December 1. According to the police, Rajesh, one of the suspects, contacted his friend Narendra Babu and asked him to bring new notes to be exchanged with old ones. He promised Babu 15% commission. Babu and his friends arranged Rs 8.5 lakh of the new Rs 2,000 and Rs 500 denomination notes. Rajesh asked Babu and his friends to meet him near Nimbekaipura.

From there, Rajesh took Babu and his friends to an isolated area, claiming that the cash was kept in a friend’s house there. As they reached the place, Rajesh asked Babu to stop his car. Soon, a motorist brushed past Babu’s car and they indulged in a heated argument. A few others reached the spot, threw chilli powder on the faces of Babu and his friends, snatched a bag containing Rs 4.5 lakh and fled. Babu approached the Avalahalli police, who registered a case.

“Based on credible information, Venkatesh, Mandur GP member was arrested and Rs 3.5 lakh was recovered. The kingpin of the gang is Rajesh and he had planned the act. They were all working as small-time real estate agents. The other gang members will be arrested soon,” said a police officer.
