Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan (BVB) and Infosys Foundation will jointly organise Anupu Festival from December 9 to 11 at Anupu village near the Nagarajunasagar dam on the banks of River Krishna on the Telangana-Andhra Pradesh border.
“I visited Anupu last November. I was amazed by the archaeological wonder of the third century which promoted Buddhist learning and culture. It was then I decided to have a local cultural festival there in coordination with BVB,” Sudha Murty, Infosys Foundation chairperson, said.
She said the cultural festival will be held in the amphitheatre of the site. The whole place will be lit up in the night to make the experience more memorable. Due permissions have been obtained from the Archaeological Survey of India and the state archaeological department. None of the structures will be harmed in any way, she said.
More than 250 artistes from Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh will participate in the festival. It will have 14 programmes scheduled for all three days. The Infosys Foundation is spending Rs 1 crore on the event. “I am attracted to monuments more than buildings and next a similar cultural event will be held either in Bidar or Vijayapura. This will be decided by BVB,” Sudha said.
