IIMBue 2016 kicks off

Last Updated 17 December 2016, 20:29 IST

IIMBue 2016, the second edition of the global leadership summit organised by the Alumni Association of the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore IIMB), began on Saturday.

Union Minister for Power, Coal, New and Renewable Energy and Mines, Piyush Goyal, inaugurated the two-day event. “Transformation is possible in every walk of life. As thought leaders, ask yourself: ‘are you leaving behind a legacy or will you be a have-been?” he said.

Goyal described his own journey in the power sector as one of disruption and change, saying management principles taught in schools such as the IIMB, where he had enrolled for a short programme, helped him bring positive results in the ministry. He said innovative financing such as reverse bidding for projects was a smart way of saving public money.

The morning began with a fun quiz for the alumni, the deans, the guests and the faculty. Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw, chairperson, IIMB Board of Governors, and chief patron of IIMBue, gave an overview of the theme of IIMBue 2016, which is ‘Start, Scale and Disrupt’, and described it as “apt” because Bengaluru is the undisputed start-up capital in the country. “It is a city with immense start-up frenzy and entrepreneurial spirit,” she said.
