We can do well overseas too: Jadeja

Last Updated 21 December 2016, 18:43 IST

With their 4-0 rout of England, India registered their third straight Test series triumph of the year. Seven of India’s nine victories have come at home, reflecting their total dominance in familiar conditions.

Ravindra Jadeja, who enjoyed a terrific five-match series against Alastair Cook’s men, believes the current Indian side can produce positive results outside the sub-continent as well.

Jadeja, fresh from a ten-wicket haul for the match in India’s innings and 75 runs thumping of England in the fifth and final Test in Chennai on Tuesday, said the players are hungry to perform well, irrespective of the conditions. “We are a young side always hungry to perform. I don’t think this is a team that is good only in home conditions. We won the series in the West Indies earlier this year and we have the ability to eke out positive results overseas also,” he said, on the sidelines of a promotional event here on Wednesday.

Virat Kohli’s boys have remained unbeaten in 18 Tests, a feat that has helped them to end the year as the number one side in the longest format. Jadeja felt the key reason behind India’s stupendous run is the great fitness levels of the players. “I think the reasons behind the success of our team is the passion for the game and the effort we put in to remain fit. We give a lot of importance to maintaining good fitness level. We spend a lot of hours in the gym and keep a close watch on our strengths. This helps us give our best in all formats of the game,” he explained.

After beginning the series with a draw in Rajkot, India notched up four victories on the trot to humiliate England. The 28-year-old Saurashtra player credited the team’s success to team effort. “Everybody in the team played well and they stuck to their roles perfectly. It was good to see youngsters stepping up in the series. We were very good as a fielding unit and that was one of the reasons behind our success,” he noted.

Jadeja said it was a memorable year for Team India. “Overall it’s been a very good year for the Indian team. We won a lot of matches. We hope 2017 will be even better for us. Wherever we play, be it at home or overseas, we’ll play with the same effort and play positive cricket,” he signed off.
