ACB raids 3 officials, uncovers huge 'illegal' wealth

Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) sleuths on Thursday raided the offices and residences of three government officials after receiving information that they had amassed properties and assets beyond their known sources of income.

The officials raided were E Prakash, Deputy Director of Land Records, Bengaluru Rural district; B R Muddaraju, Executive Engineer, Town Planning (Bengaluru South), BBMP; and G Nagaraju, Extension Officer and Joint Director, Industries Development Board, Bengaluru Rural and Urban.

All the three have been booked under Section 13(1) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.

Raids conducted at Prakash’s residence in Basaveshwaranagar yielded several documents pertaining to properties and assets he owned such as a site and a three-storey building in Kamakshipalya, two guntas of agricultural land in Dasanapura hobli, two sites at BEL Layout in Harohalli, two acres of agricultural land at Kannasandra in Magadi taluk, 23.5 guntas of agriculture land at Kudur village, Magadi taluk, four safe deposit lockers in various banks and a two-wheeler. ACB sleuths said the search was still under way.

Searches conducted at Muddaraju’s residence in Banashankari 3rd Stage and at his office in the BBMP head office yielded documents of a site he owns at Visvesvaraya Layout, four acres of agricultural land in Magadi taluk, four acres and nine guntas of agriculture land at Santanaru village, four acres of agriculture land in Kasaba hobli, Ramanagaram district, two sites and a three-storey building in Banashankari, a 40x60 site in SLN City in Tavarakere, a site in Vaddarapalya, cash and bank deposit worth Rs 20 lakh, 1.9 kg of gold and silver articles, two cars and a two-wheeler. The search at his office and house is still on.

At the searches conducted at Nagaraju’s residence in Mahalakshmipuram, his private office in Kumara Krupa West and his government office located at West of Chord Road in Rajajinagar, ACB sleuths discovered that he owned 33 acres of agriculture land in Chitradurga district, 21 acres of agriculture land in Sira taluk of Tumakuru district, 19 acres and 36 guntas of agriculture land in Sira taluk, 34 guntas of agriculture land at Channadevi Agrahara, 66 guntas of agriculture land at Honnavara, Doddaballapur taluk, Bengaluru Rural, 38 guntas of agriculture land at Isthur village, four acres and four guntas of agriculture land at Honnavara, an acre and 11 guntas of agriculture land and a farmhouse at Isthur village, two acres and 32 guntas of agriculture land at Honnavara, 10 acres of agriculture land and a farmhouse in Sira taluk, a farmhouse each in Sira and Chitradurga, a residential house at Isthur village and a Maruti Alto. Further search on his offices and house is in progress, the ACB said.
