Westernization not responsible for degrading society: Akhtar

Last Updated 22 January 2017, 14:03 IST

Eminent Bollywood lyricist and Indian poet Javed Akhtar said westernization alone is not degrading our society and resulting into incidents like Bengaluru mass women molestation.

"Segregated society, people living in different time zones and rising economical divide in the society is leading to perversion. Rising anger and venom in society have overshadowed human nature. A man who comes from village is angry about being deprived and resulting into such action," Akhtar said.

He emphasized on immediate need diagnosis of the problem and nip it in the bud.
Akhtar said that Indian cinema is said to be larger than life but actually it is reality of society. Future actress and actor will not be gender conscious and will also not be having a character larger than life. They will be people of certain principles and responsibility.

The lyricist believes in coming future films will be made on reasonable topics and much real than yesteryear.

"They will have to have better morality and sensibility and stronger sense of justice," Akhtar said.

Talking about Salman Khan's movies, he said, "He qualifies certain things. One is image of common man, not a perfect person and takes a challenge and meets it. Both 'Sultan' and 'Bajrangi Bhaijaan' are examples. We want to see them and they are hit among people."

"Things are changing. Characters are real, humane and more mature people. Girls talk sense. They are no more giggling, dumb and blonde. They are much more mature then they were in past. Society is changing and that is why cinema is changing," he added.
