Bulls consolidated their position in the Indian markets with the Nifty ending above the 8,600-mark for the first time since November 1, 2016.
While the S&P BSE Sensex ended up 332.56 points (1.21%) at 27,708.14, the Nifty 50 closed 126.95 points (1.5%) higher at 8602.75.
“Markets started the trading day on a robust note and steadily inched upwards through the day. The benchmark Sensex and the Nifty witnessed stellar gains to finally close the day with gains of over 1%,” BNP Paribas Mutual Fund senior fund manager-equities Karthikraj Lakshmanan said.
Kotak Mahindra Bank topped the list of gainers on Nifty 50 ending up 6.8% at Rs 793.90 with volumes of 87.72 lakh shares after the bank's quarterly estimates beat street estimates. Other gainers on the index included Bosch, BPCL, Bank of Baroda, Adani Ports, Zee, ACC, HDFC and YES Bank.
