Enhancing your career

Having completed a BTech in Mechanical Engineering from VIT Pune, I was employed in various companies such as Volkswagen, Sanhua and Zomato.

Soon after my tenure in Zomato, I took a chance with my own start-up. We received investor funding and I was running a team of 17 employees within two months of its commencement.

As a mechanical engineer, I had no formal business education and soon realised that in order to successfully run any business, I need to further strengthen my educational base, the lack of which could be a hindrance to my success. After being selected at 13 of the best MBA institutes in Europe, zeroing in on one was not easy.

Upon visiting Sheffield University campus and meeting the Director of the MBA programme, I knew this would be the gateway to the future of my dreams. The most important differentiating factor at the Sheffield University Management School is that they incorporate three major aspects I was looking for — Entrepreneurship, Leadership and Consultancy — all combined in a one-year programme. The MBA incorporates real life work exposure correlating with various leadership, entrepreneurial and consultancy theories.

The programme helps students develop the ability to understand organisations, be creative and innovative along with skills to seize new opportunities. The course is extremely intensive, with various workshops to help develop innovation and new ideas towards the future. The lectures are extraordinary, with various presentations and simulations taking place continually, helping students learn new techniques and develop new skills. It is not only the facility, but also the peer group which continually contributes to my success.

I have had the opportunities to learn from people coming from various paths of life. From being classmates to sharing experiences with individuals from different backgrounds, such as, director of the city council, vice-presidents and general managers of multinational companies, professional hockey players, accountants, to the captain of a ship, it is an enriching experience. Being at the university, even though for such a short time, has enabled me to learn, capitalise and refine various skills.

All good leaders are reflective practitioners who are continually reviewing and learning from themselves and others around. The programme encompasses a career accelerator programme, which is designed to provide full career support throughout the year. In addition, the management career services have two specialist career advisors to help access the university’s career services.  This provides a holistic approach to learning and enriches the minds of the future generation leaders. The course provides fantastic opportunities to interact with leaders from around the world.

The city of Sheffield is known for its vibrant culture and exciting student population. It is the fourth largest city in the UK, and is affordable and safe. It provides an enjoyable and optimal learning environment for students, the friendly nature of people allows students to maximise the resources available.

In your free time, there is plenty to see, do and explore in Sheffield. Its central location and excellent transportation links make it easy to explore the natural attractions of the surrounding Peak District, the first and largest of Britain’s National Parks. It is a place of outstanding natural beauty and it is just five miles from the city centre.

Studying the Sheffield MBA has provided me with a gateway to enormous opportunities that exist around the world. Learning from the best is allowing me to develop the best set of skills and talents in various aspects of my life.
