Members of the Environment Support Group (ESG) have objected to Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike’s (BBMP) proposal to fell 112 trees for widening Jayamahal Road.
ESG members on February 27 asked Additional Chief Secretary (Urban Development) Mahendra Jain to ensure that tree felling is not allowed in any urban infrastructure project unless they are comprehensively approved under the Karnataka Town and Country Planning Act, 1961 (KTCPA).
ESG urged Jain to direct civic agencies to institute procedures to protect trees as directed by the Karnataka High Court.
