Enquiry against SI for caning youths

Last Updated 12 March 2017, 18:19 IST

A departmental enquiry has been ordered against a sub-Inspector of Subramanyanagar police station for caning a group of youths on Saturday afternoon without any reason.

The incident occurred around 3 pm when Santosh Ram, the SI, was passing through Subramanyanagar on a bike. A group of five youths was discussing an issue near a car. The sub-inspector got down and asked them why they had gathered there. He attacked them with his cane when they objected to his words.

“I was trying to get some information about hiring a car. I told the SI that I would leave the place after getting the information. He thrashed me, broke my chin and threatened to register false cases,” Kanth Kumar said. “He took us to the police station and made us wait for hours,” he added.

Kanth Kumar approached senior police officers and filed a complaint against the sub-inspector. “We have received the complaint against Santosh Ram. I  have ordered the jurisdictional ACP to conduct an enquiry and submit a report. Action will be taken based on it,” DCP (North) Labhu Ram said.

Santosh Ram’s act has been recorded on a local CCTV camera. The footage was handed over to senior police officers.
