Showers bring respite

 Summer showers lashed several parts of the state on Tuesday. Belur and surrounding areas in Hassan district received rains for the third time in a week for an hour in the afternoon, bringing down the temperature.

The town was cloudy in the afternoon and there was drizzling for some time. But it started raining heavily at 4.30 pm and continued for an hour. Shivamogga city, other parts of the district like Bhadravathi, Sagar, Hosanagar and Thirthahalli received moderate rain.

Heavy rainfall lashed Ballamavati, Nelaji and Peroor in Napoklu, Kodagu district. The rain lasted for about half an hour. The showers brought smiles on the faces of coffee growers.  Heavy rain coupled with gusty wind lashed Hirebandadi in Uppinangady, Puttur taluk, Dakshina Kannada district. Arecanuts trees, electricity poles were uprooted. There was rain in Bantwal taluk too.

Heavy rains pounded several parts of Chamarajanagar district, including the town, for more than four hours in the morning. The sudden rains at 4 am continued for two hours, followed by drizzle up to 8 am.

Agriculture activities had taken a beating due to the failure of monsoon last year in the district. But moderate rains last week has encouraged farmers to begin tilling the fields. There were showers in Gundlupet taluk and surrounding areas too. Nanjangud taluk and Sargur in Mysuru district received rains for an hour, starting at 7 am.
